Groundbreaking Ceremony Launches Construction of new Chicago FBI Building

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and James C. Handley, Regional Administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA) will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow (Wednesday, May 19th) to officially mark the start of construction of a new building to house the FBI's Chicago office.
Located on a nearly 11 acre site in the Illinois Medical District, the new 10 story office tower will be the headquarters for all FBI operations in the Chicago area, consolidating seven current downtown Chicago sites. Scheduled for completion in early 2006, the new facility will also boast a 45,000 square foot annex for automotive and electronic repairs and a secure 520 car parking structure.
Joining Mr. Kneir and Director Handley at this groundbreaking will be representatives from the City of Chicago; The Illinois Medical District; building developers Higgins and Associates; and project architects Lohan Anderson.
The FBI's new Chicago facility will be located at 2111 West Roosevelt Road. The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM. Attendees should enter the site at the corner of Damen and Washburn. On-street parking is available.
