Harvey Man Arrested

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today the arrest of DWELLIE D. SHEKO, age 30, of Harvey, Illinois. SHEKO was arrested early yesterday in Harvey, without incident, by FBI Special Agents and Officers from the Harvey Police Department.

SHEKO was charged in a criminal complaint filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Madison, Wisconsin with one count of Bank Robbery, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, SHEKO is alleged to have robbed the First Federal Capital Bank, located at 2741 Prairie Avenue in Beloit, of approximately $8000 on June 4th. SHEKO was identified as a suspect in this robbery following an extensive investigation conducted by the FBI in Madison and the Beloit Police Department.

SHEKO appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin Ashman late yesterday, at which time he was formally charged and was ordered held without bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance. If convicted of the charge against him, SHEKO faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years incarceration.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR's NOTE: A copy of the complaint filed against SHEKO is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
