Fugitive Falls During Escape Attempt

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Philip J. Cline, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Michael F. Sheahan, Cook County Sheriff, announced today the arrest of CHRISTOPER WATTS, age 24, whose last known address was in Lexington, Kentucky. WATTS was arrested earlier today outside a residence located at 3510 North Pine Grove in Chicago, by members of the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF).

WATTS was wanted on an outstanding warrant in the State of Kentucky for narcotics violations. Information was developed by authorities in Kentucky, which indicated that WATTS might be hiding in the Chicago area. Investigation by the VCTF traced WATTS to an apartment at the Pine Grove address, where an attempt was made to arrest him this morning. As VCTF members were searching a fifth floor apartment, WATTS climbed outside and attempted to hide from investigators on a building ledge. He apparently lost his balance and fell to the ground below, sustaining multiple injuries. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital for treatment.

The Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the Chicago Police Department and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
