College Student Charged with Possessing Child Pornography

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of BRIAN C. RASMUSSEN, age 19, of Winfield, Illinois. RASMUSSEN was arrested on the campus of the College of DuPage (COD) late Tuesday, without incident, by members of the Chicago FBI's Innocent Images Task Force (IITF), assisted by Officers from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and the College of DuPage Campus Police.

RASMUSSEN was charged in a criminal complaint filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of Possessing Child Pornography, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, RASMUSSEN used the computer network at the COD campus in Glen Ellyn to upload at least 15 images consisting of child pornography into an internet group. This group was used exclusively by members to trade child pornographic images.

This investigation was initiated following the receipt of a tip by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and was investigated jointly by the Chicago FBI's IITF, DuPage County Sheriff's Office and the COD Campus Police.

RASMUSSEN appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Geraldine Soat Brown, yesterday afternoon, and was released on a $10,000 bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance. If convicted of the charge against him, RASMUSSEN faces a possible sentence of up to 5 years incarceration.

The FBI's Innocent Images Task Force is comprised of FBI Special Agents, U.S. Postal Inspectors, Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department and Palos Heights Police Department.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR's NOTE: A copy of the complaint filed against RASMUSSEN is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
