Kneir, currently the head of the FBI's Jacksonville Office, has been named to the position of Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Office.  The announcement was made on September 10th by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.  Mr. Kneir is expected to arrive in Chicago September 26th, at which time he will assume leadership of the FBI's fourth largest office.

Mr. Kneir will be replacing Kathleen L. A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, Mr. Kneir was born on February 10, 1949.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1972 and entered on duty as an FBI Special Agent in April of 1973.  After assignments in Dallas, Atlanta, and Louisville, Mr. Kneir was transferred to FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, where he headed the Governmental Fraud Unit.  While in Washington, Mr. Kneir also worked in the Office of Independent Counsel, the FBI's Inspection Staff, and the Public Corruption Unit.

Mr. Kneir also served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Special Agent in Charge of the Albuquerque Office and Deputy Assistant Director of the Criminal Investigative Division, prior to his current assignment as Special Agent in Charge of the Jacksonville Office.
