October 16, 2001 Media Advisory In light of the most recent incident of Anthrax exposure in New York City, which apparently involved ABC News, Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) wants to remind local media outlets to remain on alert for suspicious packages and letters. Included with this advisory is a copy of an FBI press release dated October 10th, which details methods of exposure and symptoms of Anthrax infection; a one-page instructional guide on suspicious package handing instructions and a copy of an FBI poster dealing with suspicious packages. This poster is available on-line at the FBI's website, www.fbi.gov, and may be downloaded and reproduced as necessary. SAC Kneir wants to emphasize that no credible threats have been received indicating that any Chicago media outlet has been targeted. This advisory is merely precautionary. |
