Two Chicago Men Arrested for Attempted Bank Robbery

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today the arrest JEPETHATH McDANIEL, age 20, and ANDRE JONES, age 31, both of Chicago, Illinois. McDANIEL and JONES were arrested, without incident, earlier today by FBI Agents in Chicago.

The arrests were the result of a joint investigation by the FBI and Maywood, Illinois Police Department into the November 8th attempted robbery of the Continental Community Bank, 400 West Madison Street in Maywood. Both men were charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago today with one (1) count of attempted bank robbery.

According to the complaint, McDANIEL and JONES confronted a bank employee early Thursday morning, as he was attempting to open the bank. At least one of the robbers was armed with a handgun and threatened the bank employee with harm if he did not comply with their demands. Before the robbers could escape with cash from the bank's vault, Maywood Police Officers arrived, responding to a silent bank alarm. The robbers were able to flee the area in a nearby vehicle, following an exchange of gunfire.

Both men appeared in U.S. District Court in Chicago today and were ordered held without bond, pending their next scheduled court appearance. No injuries were reported during the robbery.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
