Bank Robber Charged

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Terry G. Hillard, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department announced today the arrest of FRANKIE VELAZQUEZ, age 34, of 2912 North Talman in Chicago. VELAZQUEZ was arrested Saturday morning, without incident, by Chicago Police Officers at the North Community Bank branch, located at 2800 North Western Avenue.

VELAZQUEZ entered the bank early Saturday morning with a bottle of change that he wanted to exchange for currency. Bank employees recognized VELAZQUEZ as the individual who had robbed the bank branch on February 17th and immediately called 911. Chicago Police Officers responded and placed VELAZQUEZ under arrest.

VELAZQUEZ was subsequently taken into custody by the FBI and was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court with one count of bank robbery. VELAZQUEZ is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Chicago, pending a court appearance scheduled for tomorrow.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
