Media Advisory

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); John E. Zaruba, DuPage County Sheriff and Kenneth R. Ramsey, Kane County Sheriff, will hold a joint media briefing on Wednesday, March 7th at 2:00 P.M. At this briefing, SAC McChesney will formally present to each Sheriff's Office, approximately $50,000 in new, state-of-the-art, bomb detection, prevention and safety equipment.

This equipment, which will be used by each agency's bomb squad, is part of the U.S. Attorney General's Counter-Terrorism program. As part of this program, and initiative was established in late 1999, which will outfit every accredited bomb squad in the country with this equipment. Local bomb squads in major metropolitan areas were targeted to be the first to receive this equipment.

The equipment provided to the DuPage and Kane County agencies include RTR-4 portable digital X-Ray imaging systems, which are designed for rapid, in-field radioscopic imaging without use of file; MulitRae Plus gas monitors, which provide continuous monitoring for toxic and explosive gasses and SRS-5 Search Suits, which provide team members with light-weight protection from explosions and bio-chemical hazards.

All of the above described equipment will be on display and demonstration exercises will be conducted by the DuPage and Kane County bomb squads.

The briefing and demonstrations will be held at the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, 501 North County Farm Road in Wheaton (use jail visitation entrance). Media inquiries can be directed to Special Agent Ross Rice, Chicago FBI at (312) 786-2645; Monica Sampias, DuPage County Sheriff's Office at (630) 510-3444 or Dawn Barsanti, Kane County Sheriff's Office at (630) 208-2000.
