FBI Joins Search for Suspect in Wheaton Murder

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is asking for the public's help in locating MICHAEL ALFONSO. A warrant for MICHAEL ALFONSO's arrest was issued today by the U.S. District Court in Chicago after he was charged with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP). The UFAP charges stem from local charges filed by the Circuit Court of DuPage County for the first degree murder and aggravated stalking of GENOVEVA VELASQUEZ.

On the morning of June 6, 2001, GENOVEVA VELASQUEZ was shot to death in the parking log of a McDonald's fast food restaurant in Wheaton, Illinois, where she worked. Following an intensive investigation, the Wheaton Police Department named MICHAEL ALFONSO as a suspect in the murder.

Information has been received that MICHAEL ALFONSO may have fled the area and may currently be outside of Illinois. ALFONSO should be considered armed and dangerous.

MICHAEL ALFONSO is described as a black male, age 31, 5'5" tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He is also said to be driving a 1994 Pontiac Firebird, with license plate number D294 256.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of MICHAEL ALFONSO is asked to call the FBI immediately at (312) 431-1333.
