FBI Joins Hunt for Chicago Man

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that a warrant charging HUGO GRANADOS DIAZ with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) has been filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago. The warrant, obtained late last month, alleges that DIAZ  fled the state of Illinois to avoid prosecution by Cook County authorities for the December 1998 kidnapping of a twelve-year-old Skokie boy.

DIAZ  was arrested by Skokie Police, shortly after the victim was recovered, charged with aggravated kidnapping and armed  violence, both felonies under Illinois law. DIAZ  was released on bond and failed to appear for the start of his trial on October 10, 2000. Subsequent investigation by local authorities determined that DIAZ  was no longer residing at his Chicago residence and had possibly fled the state.

HUGO GRANADOS DIAZ  is described as a Hispanic/Male, 40 years of age, 6'2" tall, medium build, who was last known to reside at 4855 North Ridgeway in Chicago. Anyone recognizing DIAZ  or having any information about his current whereabouts is asked to call the FBI at (312) 431-1333.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Photographs of DIAZ and a copy of the UFAP complaint are available from the Chicago FBI, Media Affairs Office, at (312) 786-2645.
