Two Arrested in Miami Drug Case

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of ERIC HINZ, age 36 and RODNEY E. WALKER, age 30, both of Miami Beach, Florida. HINZ and WALKER were arrested late last night, without incident, by FBI Special Agents. Both men were taken into custody at the W Chicago - City Center Hotel, 172 West Adams in Chicago, where WALKER was staying.

HINZ was one of ten individuals charged in an Indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury (FGJ) in Miami yesterday. The indictment alleges that HINZ and the others were involved in the sale and distribution of "Ecstasy", a hallucinogenic drug which is a controlled substance under Federal law. WALKER was arrested on probable cause and will be charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Miami, later today, with Conspiracy to distribute a Controlled Substance.

The Miami indictment was the result of a two-year probe code named "Operation X", which was conducted jointly by the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Metro Dade Police Department in Miami.

Both men are scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sidney Schenkier in Chicago, later today.

The public is reminded that neither a complaint nor an indictment are evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Editors Note: Additional information about the investigation and copies of the indictment are available from the Miami FBI, (305) 944-9101.
