Thief Suspect Arrested

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today the arrest of DAVID A. TOMEI, age 47, of Park City, Illinois. TOMEI was arrested by FBI agents, without incident, yesterday afternoon as he left the Cook County Courthouse in Skokie.

TOMEI was arrested after being charged in a criminal complaint filed earlier this week in U.S. District Court in Chicago, with Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property (ITSP). TOMEI is alleged to have stolen nearly $100,000 in video equipment from his employer, Midwest Video Communication, 6445 Hamlin Avenue in Lincolnwood, which he subsequently resold over the Internet.

TOMEI appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ian Levin late yesterday and was released on bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
