South Suburban Couple Charged with Bank Robbery

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Chief Darrell Sanders of the Frankfort Police Department and Chief Tim McCarthy of the Orland Park Police Department announced today the arrest of JOHN EGAS, age 40, and his wife, DENISE EGAS, age 43, both of Bridgeview, Illinois. The pair were arrested yesterday afternoon, without incident, following the robbery of the TCF Bank branch located at 505 North LaGrange Road in Frankfort.

According to witnesses, DENISE EGAS entered the bank at approximately 1:00 P.M., approached a teller and handed her a note demanding money. In her note, EGAS implied that she was armed and threatened the teller with harm if her demand was not met.  After receiving an undetermined amount of cash, EGAS fled the bank and ran several blocks to a waiting van that was driven by her husband.

Witnesses to the robbery notified Frankfort Police, who apprehended DENISE EGAS several blocks from the bank. Orland Park Police, acting on a radio dispatch about the robbery, apprehended JOHN EGAS as he was driving north on LaGrange Road. Both individuals were later turned over to the FBI and were charged in a criminal complaint filed today in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery. Both individuals were ordered held without bond, pending their next scheduled court appearance.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
