Search for Tech-9 Robber Continues

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Terry G. Hillard, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) are asking for the public's help in identifying the individual depicted in the attached photographs, who is believed responsible for the robbery of at least three Chicago area banks during the past two weeks.

Dubbed the "Tech-9 Robber " as he has used a weapon believed to be a Tech-9 in each of his robberies, his most recent theft was from the Fifth Third Bank branch, located at 7112 West Cermak Road in Berwyn on September 27th. Other suspected thefts include the robbery of a Bank One branch, located at 3240 West Roosevelt Road in Chicago on September 18th and the robbery of a Fifth Third Bank branch, located at 2500 South Cicero Avenue in Cicero on September 13th. In each of these incidents, the robber displayed this weapon and threatened bank employees with harm if his demands for money were not met.

Witnesses have described the "Tech-9 Robber" as a black/male, 30-35 years of age, 5'8" - 5'10" tall, medium build, black hair, brown eyes with a mustache and goatee. He has a small diamond earring in his left ear and wears a baseball type cap with a Chicago Bears emblem on the front.

"We're very concerned that crowded banks are being robbed in broad daylight by an individual possessing such a powerful weapon" said SAC Kneir. A Tech-9 is a 9 millimeter, semi-automatic weapon with a magazine capacity of up to 30 rounds, which can readily be converted to fully automatic.

To date, no injuries have been reported in any of these thefts, which are being investigated jointly by the Chicago FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and the Berwyn and Cicero Police departments. Anyone recognizing the individual depicted in the attached photographs or having information about any of these robberies is asked to contact the Chicago FBI at (312) 431-1333.

EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the attached photographs can be obtained from the Chicago FBI Press Office, either by courier of E-mail, by calling (312) 786-2645.
