Chicago Murder Suspect Arrested in Dallas

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of EDUARDO VALDEZ, age 27, whose last known address was 4848 South Hermitage in Chicago. VALDEZ was arrested yesterday by FBI Agents in Dallas, Texas, without incident.

VALDEZ is wanted by the Chicago Police Department (CPD) for the June 1995 shooting of Chicago resident Robert Brown, following an altercation on a CTA bus. After being charged by the Cook County State's Attorney with one count of first degree murder, investigation by the CPD determined that VALDEZ had fled the state. VALDEZ has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt by the FBI since a federal warrant charging him with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) was obtained in July of 1995. Investigation by the Chicago FBI traced VALDEZ to the Dallas area, where he was living with relatives.

VALDEZ is being held by the U.S. Marshall's Service in Dallas, pending his return to Chicago.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
