Brookfield Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of ROBERT E. FLYNN, age 52, of 8923 Grant Avenue in Brookfield, Illinois. FLYNN was arrested late yesterday, without incident, by FBI Special Agents following a search of his residence. The FBI was assisted in this investigation by Inspectors from the U.S. Postal Service and Officers from the Brookfield Police Department.

FLYNN was charged in a criminal complaint filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of possession of child pornography, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, a video tape containing images of FLYNN engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor female was discovered in the basement of his residence.

FLYNN, who is an employee of the U.S. Postal Service at the Riverside Post Office, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin Ashman in Chicago, earlier today, at which time he was ordered held without bond pending his next scheduled court appearance. If convicted of the charges, FLYNN faces up to five (5) years in prison. The FBI's investigation of this matter is continuing.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A copy of the complaint filed against FLYNN is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
