Hillside Resident Charged with LaGrange Bank Robbery

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of Federal Bureau (FBI), announced today the arrest of MICHAEL J. VEYSADA, age 37, of Hillside, Illinois. VEYSADA turned himself into members of the FBI's Interstate Theft Task Force early Monday evening, whom subsequently placed him under arrest. The FBI's Interstate Theft Task Force is comprised of investigators from the Illinois Secretary of State Police, Chicago Police Officers and FBI Special Agents.

VESYSADA was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery. The complaint alleges that VEYSADA robbed the National City Bank, located at 26 S. LaGrange Road in LaGrange, Illinois on February 28, 2002. According to witnesses, VEYSADA approached a teller, implied he had a gun, and demanded money. Upon receiving the currency, VEYSADA fled the bank on foot.

VEYSADA appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bobrick and was ordered held without bond pending his next scheduled court appearance.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
