"Dapper Dan" Robber Strikes Again

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in identifying the individual depicted in the attached photographs, who has been dubbed the "Dapper Dan" robber.

This individual is believed responsible for the armed robbery of at least seven (7) banks in the downtown Chicago and west suburban area, during the past three months. The most recent theft occurred yesterday afternoon when the Chicago Community Bank, located at 180 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago, was robbed of an as yet undetermined amount of money.

Witnesses describe the robber as a black/male, 30-40 years of age, 5'9"-6'0" tall, stocky build, with a short and neatly trimmed beard. In each of the seven robberies, he has been armed with a semi-automatic handgun, which he has used to threaten bank employees. To date, no injuries have been reported in any of the robberies.

This individual has been dubbed the "Dapper Dan" robber, due to his well dressed and professional looking appearance. He usually wears a full-length dress coat and matching top hat.

Anyone recognizing this individual or having any information about these robberies is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 431-1333.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Additional copies of the attached bank surveillance photographs are available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
