Colonel McCormick was born on July 26, 1850, in Chicago, Illinois.
A threatening letter was sent to Colonel McCormick, publisher of the Chicago Daily Tribune, on July 5, 1935, advising him that he had better stop the Campaign Against Italy. If he did not, the Chicago Tribune Tower would be blown up. One latent fingerprint was developed on the letter. On February 28, 1944, the third party was arraigned before the United States Commissioner, Chicago, and entered a plea of guilty. The Commissioner, changed his plea to a not a guilty and held the subject in lieu of a five thousand-dollar bond. Prosecution of this case was declined. |
