D. B. Cooper

On November 24, 1971, an unknown subject hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 carrying 36 passengers and the crew. The flight began in Portland, Oregon and was hijacked just prior to its arrival in Seattle, Washington. The hijacker is believed to have parachuted from the plane during the flight from Seattle to Reno, Nevada. Northwest Orient Airlines paid the hijacker $ 200,000. He identified himself as Dan Cooper when purchasing a one-way ticket from Portland to Seattle. At Seattle, he allowed the passengers and two of the stewardesses to leave the plane. The authorities and personnel from Fort Lewis Washington searched for Cooper, but he was never found. In 1988, $5,800. of the money paid to the hijacker was located by an eight-year-old boy on the bank of the Columbia River. This is the only money ever recovered from the money paid to the hijacker. Dan Cooper has never been located.
