Minnesota Fugitive Arrested In Chicago

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of GREGORY A. WELCH, age 27, of St. Paul, Minnesota. WELCH was arrested by members of the Chicago FBI's Fugitive Task Force, based of a Federal warrant issued in Minneapolis, which charged WELCH with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP). WELCH is wanted in Minneapolis in connection with a string of sexual assaults.

WELCH was arrested by Task Force members, without incident, earlier today at 7820 South Shore Drive in Chicago. WELCH is being held at the Cook County Jail, pending extradition to Minnesota.

The FBI's Fugitive Task Force is comprised of Chicago Police Detectives, Cook County Deputy Sheriffs, Deputy U.S. Marshals and Special Agents of the U.S. Secret Service. WELCH's arrest was the 152nd made by the Task Force so far this year.

The public is reminded that an arrest warrant is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
