BANK ROBBER CHARGED IN HARRIS BANK ROBBERY

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that a criminal complaint has been filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Illinois charging JOSE LUNA, age 27, of 1801 W. 51ST Street, with one count of bank robbery for the September 26, 2000 robbery of the Harris Bank, 4723 S. Kedzie, Chicago, Illinois.

The Harris Bank was robbed at approximately 9:45A.M., by a lone robber. After entering the bank, the robber approached a teller and handed the teller a note that announced the robbery and demanded money. The note also implied the robber had a gun though none was displayed. Upon receiving, the currency the robber fled the bank on foot.

Upon fleeing the bank, LUNA was chased by the bank security guard, and an off-duty police officer, who noticed the bank security guard in pursuit of LUNA. A few moments later, LUNA was apprehended by both individuals. After responding to a 911 call, the Chicago Police placed LUNA under arrest and later turned him over to the FBI. LUNA appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rosemond this morning, who ordered him to be held without bond. LUNA is also suspected of the September 25, 2000 robbery of a Citibank bank branch located at 1751 W. 47th Street, Chicago, Illinois.

The public is reminded a that complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all suspects in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
