CHICAGO MAN ARRESTED FOR SKOKIE BANK ROBBERY

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); James Halas, Chief of the Skokie Police Department and George Incledon, Chief of the Morton Grove Police Department announced today the arrest of NICHOLAS ALEXANDER, age 31, of 1122 North Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois. ALEXANDER was arrested earlier today by officers of the Morton Grove Police Department, without incident, following the robbery of the First Equity Bank, 3956 West Dempster, Skokie.

At approximately 10:00 A.M., an individual believed to be ALEXANDER entered the bank and handed a note to a teller, announcing a robbery and demanding money. Although the note implied that he was armed, no weapon was displayed. After receiving an undetermined amount of cash, the robber exited the bank and entered a Maroon colored Honda automobile that was parked nearby. While attempting to flee the area, the vehicle driven by ALEXANDER was stopped by a Morton Grove patrol unit near Dempster and the Edens expressway, at which time ALEXANDER was placed under arrest.

ALEXANDER has been turned over to the FBI and will be charged in a criminal complaint filed later today in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery. No injuries were reported during the robbery. The FBI and Skokie Police are investigating.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
