October 6, 2000 FBI VIOLENT CRIMES TASK FORCE ARRESTS MAN FOR KIDNAPING WIFE Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced today the arrest of PAN JUN, age 39, of New York. JUN was arrested by FBI members of the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force based on a Federal kidnaping warrant issued in the Eastern District of New York. JUN is wanted in New York for the alleged kidnaping of his estranged wife on September 25th. JUN was arrested by Violent Crimes Task Force members, without incident, late last night at 2352 S. Canal, Chicago, Illinois. Investigation linking JUN to the Chicago area was the result of a coordinated effort by the FBI, Immigration Naturalization Service (INS), New York Police Department (NYPD), and Chicago Police Department (CPD). JUN's wife was found unharmed. JUN is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, pending an appearance in U.S. District Court later today. The public is reminded that an arrest warrant is not evidence of guilt and all defendants in a criminal case are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Violent Crimes Task Force is comprised of the FBI, Chicago Police Department, and the Cook County Sheriff's Department. |
