Two Men Charged in Credit Union Robbery

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today the arrest of LABARON SCOTT, age 26, of 13151 Foxtail Lane, Lemont, Illinois and LYRON BROOKS, age 27, of 10350 West Dickens, Westchester, Illinois. Both men were taken into Federal Custody earlier today in connection with the July 27, 2000 robbery of the Meadows Credit Union, 3350 Salt Creek Lane, Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The Meadows Credit Union was robbed of an undetermined amount of cash, at approximately 1:30 P.M., yesterday afternoon. According to witnesses, a lone robber entered the bank and announced a robbery, demanding to be taken to the vault area. Once there, he placed credit union funds into a sack that he had brought with him into the credit union. He then departed the credit union and entered a waiting vehicle that was parked near the front door. This vehicle was driven by a second robber.

During the robbery, alert credit union employees alerted the Arlington Heights Police, who immediately responded to the call. Patrol units blocked the path of the robbers' vehicle, forcing the robbers to flee on foot. After a brief chase, both men were taken into custody, without incident. The robbers were later identified as SCOTT and BROOKS. Both men will be charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, with one count each of bank robbery. Both men are being held pending a court appearance, later today.

No injuries were reported during the robbery. The Arlington Heights Police and the FBI are investigating.
