Holiday Robber Strikes Again; Bank Robbery Spree Continues

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that the FBI is investigating the Saturday robberies of two Chicago area banks, in what appears to be unrelated incidents.

The first robbery occurred at approximately 11:00 A.M., when an undetermined amount of cash was taken by a lone robber from the Plaza Bank Branch, located at 6500 West Irving Park Road in Chicago. According to witnesses, the robber approached a teller and handed her a note, demanding money. Although his note implied that he was armed, no weapon was displayed.

The robber is described as a White or Hispanic/male, 25-35 years of age, 140-150 pounds, medium build. He fled the bank on foot, last seen running West on Irving Park road.

The second robbery occurred at approximately 12:30 P.M., when an individual believed to be the "Holiday Robber" took an undetermined amount of cash from a Bank One branch located at 1968 Sibley Blvd. in Calumet City, Illinois. The robber approached a teller, handed her a paper bag and ordered her to fill it with cash. He implied that he was armed and kept one hand inside a coat pocket, though no weapon was displayed. As is his usual practice, he made reference to the Holiday season during the robbery. He then fled the bank on foot, last seen running across Sibley Blvd.

The "Holiday Robber" is described as a black/male, 30-40 years of age, 6'0" tall, medium build with black hair and brown eyes. The "Holiday Robber" is believed responsible for nine bank robberies in the Chicago area, dating to November 18, 2000.

No injuries were reported in either incident. The Chicago and Calumet City Police Departments are assisting with these investigations. This brings to 103 the number of bank robberies committed in the six county metropolitan area so far this year. Anyone with information about either robbery is asked to call the FBI at (312) 431-1333.
