Holiday Robber Strikes Again; Third Serial Robber Sought

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that the FBI is investigating two new bank robberies, which occurred late yesterday afternoon.

The first robbery took place at approximately 4:00 P.M., when the Bank One branch located at 3145 South Ashland Avenue in Chicago, was robbed of an undetermined amount of money by an individual believed to be the "Holiday Robber". After approaching a teller, the robber demanded cash from her drawer. Once again, he implied that he was armed and threatened the teller with physical harm if his demands were not met. As has been his practice, the robber made mention of the Holiday season.

No injuries were reported in this robbery, which is the ninth being attributed to the "Holiday Robber". He is described as a black/male, 30-40 years of age, 6'0" tall, medium build, with black hair and brown eyes.

The second robbery of the day occurred at approximately 4:30 P.M., when the Metropolitan Bank, located at 4800 West 24th Place in Cicero, was robbed of an undetermined amount of money. This theft was committed by a serial robber, who has been dubbed the "Bomb Robber". He is described as a white/male, 20-25 years of age, 5'10" tall, medium build.

After approaching a teller, the robber handed her a note claiming that he was armed with a bomb, which he would detonate if his demand for money was not met. He fled the bank on foot, last seen running north on Cicero Avenue. No weapon or bomb was displayed and no injuries were reported.

This was the third robbery attributed to the "Bomb Robber", in the past week. His prior robberies include the Hyde Park Bank, 1525 East 53rd Street in Chicago on 12/6/00 and the First American Bank, 50 East Adams in Chicago on 12/8/00. No injuries have been reported in any of these thefts.

The Chicago and Cicero Police Departments are assisting the FBI with these investigations. This brings to 100 the number of Bank Robberies committed so far this year in the six county Chicago area. Both robbers should be considered Armed and Dangerous. Anyone recognizing either robber is asked to call the FBI at(312) 431-1333.
