Second Serial Bank Robber Sought

Kathleen L. McChesney, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in identifying a serial bank robber, who has been dubbed the "Ray Ban Robber".

This individual, who is described as a white/male, 50-60 years of age, 5'10" - 6'0" tall, thin build, ruddy complexion with several days growth of beard, is suspected of robbing at least five Chicago area banks dating back to October of 1998. He is called the ‘Ray Ban Robber" as he always wears aviator style sunglasses while committing robberies.

The most recent theft committed by the "Ray Ban Robber" was the November 27, 2000 robbery of the First American Bank, 356 West Armitage in Chicago. The theft occurred at approximately 5:30 P.M., when the robber entered the bank, approached a teller and orally announced a robbery. He threatened the teller with physical harm if his demands were not met and displayed a silver colored handgun that was tucked inside his waistband. After receiving an undetermined amount of cash, he fled the bank on foot, last seen running eastbound on Armitage.

No injuries have been reported in any of these robberies, which are being investigated by the Chicago Police and FBI. Anyone recognizing the "Ray Ban Robber", who should be considered Armed and Dangerous, is asked to call the FBI at (312) 431-1333.

(Photographs of the "Ray Ban Robber" can be obtained by calling the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.)
