September 18, 2003 Search for Serial Bank Robber Continues Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in identifying the individual depicted in the attached bank surveillance photograph. Dubbed the "Jefferson Park Bandit", this individual is believed responsible for five armed robberies of four different LaSalle Bank branches on the northwest side of Chicago and surrounding suburbs, starting in May of this year. The most recent theft occurred on September 6th, when the LaSalle Bank branch located at 8422 West Lawrence in Norridge was robbed of an undetermined amount of cash. As with his previous thefts, the robber approached a teller and handed her a note announcing a robbery and demanding cash. Although the note implied that he was armed, no weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported. After obtaining money from the teller, the robber fled on foot. In prior thefts, the robber followed essentially the same pattern, although he did display a handgun in two of the robberies. The "Jefferson Park Bandit" is described as a white/male, 30-40 years of age, 5'8" - 5'10" tall, medium build, who usually wears a baseball type cap. A detailed listing of suspected thefts committed by the "Jefferson Park Bandit" is attached. Anyone recognizing this individual or having any information about any of these robberies is asked to call the FBI at (312) 431-1333. EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the attached photographs are available by e-mail from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645. |
