Public's Help Sought in Identifying Bank Robber

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in identifying the individual depicted in the attached photograph, who was responsible for yesterday's robbery of the Mid America Bank branch, located at 2154 West Madison in Chicago.

According to witnesses, the robber entered the bank shortly after 10:00 AM, armed with a handgun. He immediately approached a uniformed security guard who was stationed in the lobby and disarmed him. The robber then fired a shot into the ceiling before he proceeded to the teller's counter, where he obtained an as yet undetermined amount of cash, which he placed into a black duffle or gym bag. He then fled the bank on foot, last direction of travel not observed.

Witnesses described the robber as a black/male, 30 years of age, 6' tall, medium build with a full beard. He was wearing glasses and had a white colored bandana around his head.

No injuries were reported during the robbery, which is being investigated by the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF). Anyone recognizing the individual depicted in the attached photograph is asked to call the FBI at (312) 431-1333.

EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the attached photograph are available from the Chicago FBI Press Office, either by courier or e-mail, by calling (312) 786-2645.
