Wheeling Man Charged in Mt. Prospect Bank Robbery

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Richard Eddington, Chief of the Mt. Prospect, Illinois Police Department (MPPD) announced today the arrest of JUSTIN A. BORDNER, age 25, of 1430 Sandstone in Wheeling, Illinois. BORDNER was arrested by MPPD Officers, without incident, Friday afternoon, following the robbery of the Bank One Bank branch, located at 55 East Euclid in Mt. Prospect.

BORDNER was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, earlier today, with one count of Bank Robbery, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, BORDNER entered the Bank One branch at approximately 2:30 Friday afternoon, approached a teller and handed her a note announcing a robbery and demanding money. After receiving approximately $800 in cash, BORDNER fled the bank on foot and proceeded to the nearby Randhurst Mall, where he called police from a pay telephone. He then waited for police to arrive, at which time he was taken into custody. BORDNER was not armed during the robbery and no injuries were reported.

BORDNER was subsequently turned over to the FBI and was held over the weekend at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Chicago. BORDNER appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys, earlier today, at which time he was formally charged and ordered held without bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance. If convicted of the charge against him, BORDNER faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years incarceration.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR's NOTE: A copy of the complaint filed against BORDNER is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
