Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Philip J. Cline, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Michael F. Sheahan, Cook County Sheriff announced today the arrest of WILLIAM LEE ANDERSON, age 48, of 341 East 87th Place in Chicago. ANDERSON was apprehended Monday afternoon, without incident, following the armed robbery of the Bank One branch, located at 10 South Dearborn Street in Chicago.

ANDERSON was charged in a criminal complaint filed earlier today in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one (1) count of Bank Robbery, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, ANDERSON entered the Bank One branch at approximately 1:00 PM, approached a teller and handed her a noteannouncing a robbery and demanding cash. He then pulled a handgun from under his coat and threatened the teller with harm, if his demands were not met. After receiving in excess of $13,000, which he placed in a small black bag, ANDERSON fled the bank, walking west towards Clark Street.

The teller alerted a bank security officer, who gave chase and detained ANDERSON until CPD Officers arrived. ANDERSON was eventually turned over to members of the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), who are investigating the case.

ANDERSON appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys this morning, at which time he was ordered held without bond until his next scheduled court appearance on Friday, November 14th at 10:00 AM. If convicted of the charge against him, ANDERSON faces a maximum penalty of 20 years incarceration.

The Chicago FBI's VCTF is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the CPD and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A copy of the complaint filed against ANDERSON is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
