Alabama Fugitive Arrested at North Side Restaurant

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of JON CHRISTIAN MAGGIO, age 31, formerly of Mobile, Alabama. MAGGIO was arrested last night by members of the Chicago FBI's Violent Crime Task Force (VCTF) at the TGI Friday's restaurant, located at 153 East Erie in Chicago. MAGGIO was an employee of the restaurant and is believed to have been staying in an apartment located at 330 West Diversey Parkway.

MAGGIO is wanted by both the FBI and local authorities in Mobile for bank fraud, stemming from a 1999 FBI investigation. MAGGIO is also wanted by local authorities in Louisiana for parole violation, following a 1993 arrest and conviction for second degree murder.

Members of the Chicago FBI's VCTF received a tip from a member of the public, who indicated that an individual appearing to match MAGGIO's description was employed at the TGI's restaurant. Task Force members who responded determined that the individual in question was in fact MAGGIO and placed him under arrest, following a brief struggle. MAGGIO was turned over to the Cook County Sheriff's office and is awaiting extradition to Alabama.

The Chicago FBI's VCTF is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Chicago Police Detectives and Cook County Sheriff's Police Investigators.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR's NOTE: Photographs of MAGGIO and details about his case are available online at http://mobile.fbi.gov.
