Chicago Man Arrested for Weapons Violation at Midway Airport

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of VINCENT TODD, age 46, of 8600 South University in Chicago. TODD was arrested late yesterday afternoon, without incident, by FBI Special Agents at Chicago's Midway airport.

TODD will be charged in a criminal complaint filed later today in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of attempting to carry a weapon onto an aircraft, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, a 300,000 watt electronic stun gun was found in TODD's carry-on luggage as he attempted to pass through a security checkpoint. TODD, who was a ticketed passenger on Southwest Airlines flight #2872, which provided non-stop service to Los Angeles International airport, was detained by the Chicago Police Department until being taken into custody by the FBI.

TODD will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin C. Ashman in Chicago, later today. If convicted of the charge, TODD faces a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR's NOTE: A copy of the complaint filed against TODD will be available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 786-2645.
