Serial Bank Robber Sought

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in identifying the individual depicted in the attached photos. Dubbed the "Metropolitan Robber", this individual is believed responsible for the robbery of three Chicago area Metropolitan Bank branches and the attempted robbery of a fourth, dating to December 19th of 2002.

The most recent theft occurred at approximately 9:30 Monday morning, when the Metropolitan Bank branch located at 3522 West 26th Street in Chicago was robbed of an undetermined amount of money.

On each occasion, the robber has entered a Metropolitan Bank branch and approached a teller, handing her a note demanding money. While the note implies that he is armed, no weapon has been displayed and no injuries have been reported. After receiving cash from the teller, he flees the bank on foot.

The "Metropolitan Robber" is described as a Hispanic/male, 30-35 years of age, 5'4"-5'6" tall, 200 lbs., heavy build, with dark hair and a mustache.

These robberies are being investigated by the Chicago FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force, which is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Chicago Police Detectives and Cook County Sheriff's Police Officers. Anyone recognizing this individual or having information about these thefts is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 431-1333.
