MISSING ATLANTA GIRL RECOVERED IN CHICAGO

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office ofthe Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Philip J. Cline, acting Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD); and Michael F. Sheahan, Cook County Sheriff, announced today that ANJELICA GOMEZ, a three-year old Atlanta girl reported missing from her mother's residence, has been safely recovered by members of the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF).

GOMEZ was recovered earlier this afternoon, without incident, from the residence of her paternal grandmother, located on Chicago's northwest side. GOMEZ has been the subject on a nationwide Amber Alert since being reported missing by her mother, late yesterday.

GOMEZ' father, EFRAN ESIQUIO, is wanted by the Clayton County, Georgia Sheriff's office in connection with her disappearance. Attempts to locate ESIQUIO in Chicago have thus far met with negative results and he remains a fugitive from justice.

GOMEZ will be turned over to officials from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), later today, who will arrange for her return to Georgia.

The FBI's VCTF is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the CPD and Cook County Sheriff's Police Investigators. Detectives from the CPD Area 5 violent crimes unit also assisted in the recovery of GOMEZ.

Anyone having any information as to the current whereabouts of EFRAN ESIQUIO is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 431-1333.
