Chicago Native to Head FBI Counter Terrorism Program

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that Richard K. Ruminski has assumed the position of Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of Domestic and International Terrorism for the FBI's Chicago Field office.

Appointed to this position by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, Mr. Ruminski served as a Supervisory Special Agent in the Richmond, Virginia office where he oversaw the Counter-Terrorism, Foreign Counter-Intelligence and the National Infrastructure Protection programs. Mr. Ruminski also served as an Assistant Inspector at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

A native of Chicago, Mr. Ruminski graduated from Loyola University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. He entered on duty with the FBI in 1986 and returned to the Chicago office after completing New Agent training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. While in Chicago, Mr. Ruminski, who speaks fluent Polish, was assigned to investigate both Foreign Counter-intelligence and general criminal matters. He left Chicago in 1997 after being promoted to the position of Supervisory Special Agent in the Domestic Terrorism Unit at FBI Headquarters.

Mr. Rumisnki replaces John G. Raucci as the head of the Chicago FBI's Counter-terrorism program. Mr Raucci will assume the position of Administrative ASAC for the Chicago FBI. Mr. Ruminski will have overall responsibility for the investigation of terrorist activity in the Chicago metropolitan area, including Rockford. The FBI's fourth largest field office, Chicago has five counter-terrorism task force squads with approximately 100 FBI Special Agents, Task Force Officers, Intelligence Analysts and support employees.

In announcing this appointment, Mr. Kneir said "Rich Ruminski will be a great addition to the Executive Management staff of the Chicago office. His knowledge of the Chicago area combined with his extensive experience in counter-terrorism matters makes him the perfect candidate to fill this important position."

Mr. Ruminski is 45 years of age, married with three children.
