FBI Task Force Arrests Three in Separate Investigations

Thomas J. Kneir, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),Terry G. Hillard, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Michael F. Sheahan, Cook County Sheriff, announced today the arrest of three fugitives from justice by the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF).

Arrested on Tuesday, April 22nd was DEVON MONDACURE, age 29, whose last known address was in Lexington, Mississippi. MONDACURE was wanted by the FBI in Alabama for the May 2001 armed robbery of the Amsouth Bank branch, located in Madison, Alabama. MONDACURE was located at a relative's house in Calumet City, Illinois and was arrested by VCTF members, without incident.

Also arrested on April 22nd was MARIO D. TYE, age 22, who was last known to be living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. TYE was wanted by Wisconsin authorities in connection with the June 2002 homicide of Neelman Love. TYE was located by VCTF members at a relative's house in the 6600 block of South Mozart in Chicago, where he was arrested without incident.

On April 23rd, ALEJANDRO "ALEX" PINILLOS, age 39, was arrested by VCTF members, without incident. PINILLOS has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since 1989, at which time he was charged by local authorities in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with being part of an international drug smuggling operation. PINILLOS was staying at a single family residence located in the 100 block of Melrose Avenue in Elmhurst, Illinois.

All three men will be returned to the States in which they were charged to stand trial.

The FBI's VCTF is comprised of FBI Special Agents, CPD Detectives and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Year to date, 70 individuals wanted for a variety of violent crimes have been apprehended by the VCTF in the Chicago metropolitan area. During 2002, 123 fugitive arrests were made by the VCTF.

The public is reminded that neither a complaint nor an indictment are evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
