Haakon Maurice Chevalier was born on September 10, 1901, at Lakewood, New Jersey. He was a Professor of French at the University of California. He reportedly attended meetings of the Communist Party. In 1945, Chevalier was sent to Nuernberg, Germany as a translator at the trials. Upon his return, he worked on writing a book. He translated a French language book "Hidden Faces" written by Salvador Dali. In November 1950, he went to Paris, France and worked as a writer and translator. During July 1965, he came from Paris to the United States to attend his daughter's wedding in San Francisco.
