DIANA OUGHTON

Diana Oughton was born on January 26, 1942, at Chicago, Illinois. She received her B.A. degree at Bryn Mawr College and was pursuing her graduate degree at the University of Michigan. She was employed by the American Friends Service Committee from July 1963, to August 1965, as a Vista volunteer doing general community development in rural Guatemalan Villages. She left that employment by reason of termination of the assignment. While at the University of Michigan, she joined the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). The body of Diana Oughton was identified as one of the three bodies found in a New York City townhouse located at 18 West 11th Street, being used by the SDS as a "bomb factory." The house exploded on March 6, 1970, as a bomb was being assembled. Her torso was found four days later missing the head. She was identified by a finger found twelve days after the explosion. The police estimate she was standing within two feet of the explosion.
