CHET HUNTLEY

Chester Robert Huntley was born on December 10, 1911, at Cardwell, Montana. He attended college at Montana State College in Bozeman, Montana and the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He was employed as a radio broadcaster in 1934 in the western states. Chet Huntley was employed as a member of the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). In 1951, while employed by radio station KGW, he transferred to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in Los Angeles. While he was employed as a broadcaster in April of 1970, for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), he received a copy of a threatening letter from a third party addressed to him (Huntley) concerning a news report he had given. An interview of the third party disclosed that he had no intention of harming Huntley, but merely objected to Huntley's misleading news report. The Assistant United States Attorney declined prosecution. Chet Huntley moved to television reporting and was paired with David Brinkley on the news program known as the "Huntley-Brinkley Report." Chet Huntley retired as a television reporter in July of 1970.
