We have divided the ACE-2 time period into 7 segments of 4,5 or 6 days
each.

Radiosonde Plots: In all plots winds speeds are in m/s.
Potential temperatures are in degrees kelvin. The horizontal wind
vectors are plotted at 125 meter vertical resolution in the 0 to 5 km plots
and with 500 meter resolution in the 0 to 20 km plots. Arrows pointing
down indicate wind from the north, Arrows pointing right indicate
wind from the west. The length of the standard wind vector at the bottom
of the plot is 20 m/s for the 0 to 5 km plots and 40 m/s for the 0 to 20
km plots.

Boundary Layer Plots: Plots of each sounding have been examined
and the altitude of the top of the boundary layer, and of the top of the
mixed layer have been determined. The top of the boundary layer is here
defined as the altitude where the temperature inversion starts, and the
relative humidity begins to decrease with increasing altitude, as in point
"A" in the example sounding. The top of the
mixed layer is defined here as the altitude where relative humidity stops
increasing with altitude, as in point "B" in the example
sounding. Generally, the marine stratus clouds are located between
the top of the mixed layer and the top of the boundary layer. Obviously,
not all sounding showed such well defined layers as the example sounding.
In the boundary layer time series plots and in the data
file, a "-1" indicates that the atmosphere appeared to be well mixed
(convective) in the lowest 5 km, and a "-2" indicated that the free troposphere
appeared extend to the surface and there was no discernible boundary layer.
