What We Investigate

Investigative Programs

FBI Seal GraphicThe very heart of FBI operations lies in our investigations--which serve, as our mission states, "to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats and to enforce the criminal laws of the United States."

We currently have jurisdiction over violations of more than 200 categories of federal law. So you can see that the Investigative-Program sites listed below do not represent all FBI programs, nor is the information on them complete. But you are sure to find some fascinating information by browsing through them.

You might first want to visit our Intelligence program site, as it underpins and informs all our investigative programs. Also our Strategic Information and Operations Center, or SIOC, which is the command center for crisis events...and our Office for Victim Assistance, which helps the victims of these crises and of all major federal crimes. Finally, you might want to explore our Community Outreach Program, which operates in communities across America to help prevent crime.
