This is how we will handle information we learn about you when you contact STAT-USA.
    • If you access any of our web sites (STAT-USA/Internet, USA Trade Online, or EuroTrade Online), our system automatically collects certain system information including date, time, URL visited, IP address, and (where applicable) your STAT-USA userid.

    • In addition, for system monitoring purposes, we collect information such as views listed, and searches made. This helps us refine and better target our information for our user community.

    • For purposes of user authentication as well as for detecting intrusions into our system, we collect username and password information every time you log into the site.

    • For the protection of users of our Web sites, we have safeguards in place to identify and prevent unauthorized attempts to access or cause harm to information and systems.

    • In subscribing to one or more of our services, you provided personal identifying information. This information is retained in secure storage for internal use in maintaining your account. Some information is collected for internal marketing-related purposes. If you charged your subscription fee using a credit card, we submit your account number to a U.S. Government approved financial institution for payment authorization. Once payment is approved, we destroy the record containing your credit card number.

    • Submitting voluntary information constitutes your consent to the use of the information for the stated purpose.

    • You may also decide to send us personal identifying information. For example, you may use electronic mail to inquire about one of our services or to request technical assistance. We maintain these communications containing personal information for internal marketing purposes and to refine and better target our information for our user community.

    • We collect no personally identifiable information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide that information to us.

    • Under no circumstances is personal identifying information collected on the STAT-USA/Internet and EuroTrade Online sites made available outside STAT-USA. The USA Trade Online site (only) is co-sponsored by Beyond 20/20 and the Bureau of the Census and certain personal information, once you've chosen to make it available to us, is shared with them under strict non-disclosure agreements.

    • We want to be very clear: We will protect all such information consistent with applicable law including, but not limited to, the Privacy Act of 1974 and the Freedom of Information Act. It is also the policy of the Department to follow the Principles for Providing and Using Personal Information ("Privacy Principles"), published by the Information Infrastructure Task Force on June 6, 1995.
