About the DCI

Porter J. Goss became Director of Central Intelligence on 24 September 2004. As DCI, he heads the US Intelligence Community and also directs the Central Intelligence Agency.

John E. McLauglin serves as Deputy Director of Central Intelligence, a position he has held since October 19, 2000. The DDCI assists the Director in his duties as head of the CIA and the Intelligence Community and exercises the powers of the Director when the Director's position is vacant or in the Director's absence or disability.

The Intelligence Community refers collectively to those Executive Branch agencies and organizations that conduct the varied intelligence activities which make up the total US national intelligence effort.
