Mission Statement

U.S. Delegation of Exhibitors to CEO at Expopharm '98

Munich, Germany, October 1-4, 1998

Mission Description:

CS Hamburg will recruit and organize a U.S. exhibitor delegation to Expopharm '98. The event will be held October 1-4, 1998 in Munich, Germany. Expopharm is the largest pharmaceutical, over-the-counter products, and health supplement trade show in Europe and is organized by the German pharmaceutical association A'Werbe- und Vertriebsgesellschaft Deutscher Apotheker GmbH. The organizers of Expopharm are very interested in the presence of international exhibitors and support CS Hamburg's efforts to organize a USA pavilion under the CEO program, which is called A'USA Kontaktbörse in the German language. American manufactures of pharmaceuticals, OTC products and health supplements get the opportunity to present their products on the exhibition floor of this large international trade show. For $2,150 American manufacturers participating in the CEO program will receive a limited exhibition area, their own meeting space, and a bilingual assistant, all at a fraction of the regular cost. The CEO program is open to all pharmaceutical manufacturers whose products are at least 51 percent U.S. made. The cost of the program is covered by participation fees.

Commercial Setting:

In general, the German commercial environment is favorable toward U.S. products and services. The most promising sectors among the drugs and pharmaceutical products for U.S. sales in Germany are: OTC products, nutritional supplements, cosmetics and diagnostics. Other pharmaceutical products have to undergo a sometimes time- and money-consuming registration process.

Mission Goals:

The mission's goal is to enable American small and mid-size companies to exhibit their products/services at an international fair in Europe without having to incur any greater financial burden. This is particularly valuable because finding a German/European business partner is the only way to meet the access requirements of the European market.

Mission Scenario:

Exhibitors will spend four days at Expopharm '98 in Munich, Germany. Munich is in the heart of Germany's medical industry. Its proximity to nations with a strong emphasis in pharmaceuticals like Austria, as well as easy access to Eastern Europe make it the ideal location for the presentation of American products in Europe.

Exhibitors/Participants will receive four days of exhibitor rights to the USA Kontaktbörse and a bilingual assistant for two exposition days.

Timetable:

Event participants will arrive in Munich on or about September 30, 1998. Four days of trade-show participation (including meetings arranged during the trade show) will be held October 1-4, 1998 in Munich.

CS/Hamburg has principal recruitment responsibility. The Florida-based trade show promoter Jonathan Pain, (formerly Pan-American Access) is assisting with the recruitment campaign. Event promotion will involves, but is not limited to, the following venues: the District Offices and their teams; Showcase Europe posts; relevant trade associations; and past CEO Office participants. Promotional materials for the CEO at Expopharm '98 will also be listed on the International Trade Administration' s Internet home page.

Recruitment will commence immediately and will close on August 21, one and a half months prior to the start of the event.
