Human Capacity Building
A strong emphasis of the International Mass Transportation Program IMTP is human capacity building in developing countries, which not only benefits those countries, but also helps develop future markets for U.S. transit goods and services.
Examples:
- In partnership with Boston University, the IMTP organized training for officials from Nigeria and at the UN sponsored World Summit for Sustainable Development in South Africa.
- Reverse trade missions were conducted for officials from such countries as El Salvador and Ghana.
- International workshops were developed in Bangkok, Thailand; Accra, Ghana; and San Salvador, El Salvador.
- FTA has also offered on-the-job training at DOT headquarters to officials from such countries as Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
