The Specialized Care Program
The Specialized Care Program is a recommended level of care outlined in the
Post Deployment Health Clinical Practice Guideline's algorithm. The SCP is
for patients who have been through the PDH-CPG cycle of care and continue to
present with chronic illnesses such as medically unexplained physical symptoms.
What is it?
A three week, multidisciplinary treatment program based on internationally
recognized chronic pain treatment protocols. It provides comprehensive care
for patients suffering from symptoms refractory to ordinary medical practice
which they attribute to prior deployment.
What Kind of care is provided?
The SCP is designed to meet each participant’s individual needs. In
addition to customary treatment of physical symptoms, a multidisciplinary team
provides interventions which help the patient deal with the stress which accompanies
chronic illness, as well as the impact of chronic symptoms on social, occupational,
emotional, and interpersonal functioning.
Treatment Modalities
Physical conditioning (stretching, strengthening, cardiovascular), patient
education, counseling, group discussion, nutritional counseling, occupational
therapy and relaxation training.
