Environmental Studies of Anthropologic Discharges in the Coastal Zone:

Substantial Quantities of sewage effluent and dredged material are released into the U.S. coastal zone daily. Large amounts of these substances are created as a result of economic and societal needs, e.g. port maintenance, and wastewater treatment. Management of these coastal zone dischargesis essential in order to reduce real and potential impacts on important economic and environmental resources such as coral reefs, oyster beds, fish hatcheries, recreational beaches, etc.

• John R Proni, Ph.D Director RSD
• Terri A. Nelson, Ph.D/OSD
